“Embargo”
I didn’t get a chance to see it, but the four major candidates for the Governorship of Texas had a televised debate tonight on local ABC affiliate KVUE.
I’m sure it was just a lot of grandstanding and bullshit, but what gets my goat is that, according to News 8 (the local Time-Warner news channel) the Belo Corporation (the owner of KVUE) has imposed an “embargo” on any further rebroadcast of the debate by other channels.
A panel of Belo print and television journalists asked questions of the candidates.
News 8 is not allowed to provide a live broadcast or to rebroadcast the debate due to restrictions by event sponsor Belo, owner of the Dallas Morning News and local station KVUE.
News 8 will provide news coverage of the debate on air and online to the extent allowed within Belo’s guidelines.
What the hell? Is that true? Why should that be? Footage of the one and only Texas gubernatorial debate is the property of a commercial entity? I don’t like that. I think it’s wrong.
